William L. Hester, 74, passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at St. Joseph's Home Holy Family Center. He was born May 3, 1939, in Kalamazoo, Mich., the son of Earl E. and Janet M. Hester. He lived most of his life in Springfield and attended SHS until 1956. After serving in the United States Navy, Bill entered employment for PPG Industries in Lincoln, working there for 28 years until their closure. He was then employed by the Illinois State Police as a Truck Weight Inspector until his retirement in 2002. Bill was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and a private pilot, owning two planes.
Bill leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 52 years, Diana; daughters, Debra L. Claypool (husband, Terry) of Tallula and Kimberli A. Nolen (husband, Brent) of Springfield; grandchildren: Shannon M. Reid of Springfield, Alix B. Claypool of Jacksonville, Paige N. Claypool of Tallula, Trent W. Nolen and Amanda L. Nolen, both of Springfield; brothers: Donald Allen Hester of Greenwood, SC, James Devore Hester (wife, Mary) of Greenwood, SC, and Lawrence Gamber Hester (wife, Rita) of Fredericksburg, VA, and several nieces and nephews.
Members of Bill's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to St. Joseph's Home of Springfield for the love and care given Bill while in their care. Friends may call Wednesday Aug. 14, 2013, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Rev. Ken Gennicks officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
