End of Summer

Labor Day brings the end of summer, the start of school.
Here's a film on this rite of passage by Jeff Scher, a painter and writer.
For me, September always seems the best month to travel.
Are you going anywhere?

September has always been our favorite travel month. The weather is perfect as long as you stay away from hurricane areas and it's quiet because the kids are back in school. A few years ago we went to England and Scotland in Sept. and enjoyed warm sunny weather since I packed rain ponchos and sweatshirts:) Thanks to the recession we aren't traveling this year but it's just as nice at home.

Will,
Autumn has always been my favorite season of the year and it is an ideal time for travel, cool days and wonderful sites that are not as crowded as usual.
Thanks for the great videos by Jeff Scher. They seemed to take me back to a simpler time. Loved the painted format for the films. The site just gets better and better. Thanks.

Barbara and Keith,

Thanks for your comments! I like the film because it reminds me of our summer places in the 50s, always in WI, MN, or ON because Dad loved to fish and we all enjoyed living in tents or cabins with a view of fresh lake water. And Mom liked those trips, because he mostly cooked!

Driving home from such places, we'd see the seasons turning to fall, and I always wanted to go travel in September, when everyone else is returning to school or work. Once I finally stop teaching for good, we'll go hiking in the UK in the fall. Or somewhere in northern Europe, before the snow flies!
